WaWa Seafood
Slurp-Worthy Lala-Themed Eatery in Kovan.
Lala is mostly eaten as an accompaniment or side dish, and rarely as a main dish. As Lala lovers, we wanted to change that. Beyond just dishes, we wanted to create a whole new cuisine centered around this Lala-love.
The concept of Lala-only menu was unheard of in Singapore so we didn't want to rush into investing in a brick and mortar outlet right away.
Instead, we started at pop-up stores at events two years ago serving dishes only using live Lala to gauge customers' interest.
The first being that they?d just opened a brick-and-mortar shop in Kovan, in January 2020, after years of solely running their shop at food events and bazaars, and the second was that they?re highly likely the first and only lala-themed F&B establishment in Singapore.
Just based on these two points, the only thing left to do was to drop them a text for my order!
First off, can we take a second to appreciate their adorable logo? I have to add that I was also impressed with the quality of the takeaway containers, as they were sturdier than some that I?ve encountered.
If you?re already a fan of lala clams and would like to quickly place your order, you?ll be elated to know that they do deliver islandwide, and all you have to do is head to their ordering platform and place your order at least one hour in advance.
The small cafe is a cosy, quirky place to head to for lunch with a group of colleagues or a simple meal with some friends.
Food is very nice and satisfying.

Ah Huat Wanton Mee
Cheap & good food in Dunman
Dunman Food Centre, built in 1974, is one of the smallest food centres in Singapore. It has only about 30 stalls but it is the number of stalls with cheap and good food in a food centre that really counts.
One of the several stalls that serves cheap and good food is Joo Chiat Ah Huat Wanton Mee in Dunman Food Centre.
Joo Chiat Ah Huat Wanton Mee is located in the lower level of the 2 storey Dunman Food Centre.
It right next to the Say Seng Famous Tau Kwa Pau stall. The wanton noddles shop opens early and there are many customers who go there for breakfast.
When we visited Joo Chiat Ah Huat Wanton Mee, we were given a number tag.
Joo Chiat Ah Huat Wanton Noodle should not be a foreign name for Wanton lovers; it was previously helmed by the famous Ang Moh Wanton Noodles, which has since made its root at the food centre after going into hibernation for years.
Occupying two stalls side by side, ordering is fortunately, facilitated by an LED board, so customers can sit and have a cup of coffee while waiting.
The tag allowed us to place our order when the number was shown on the digital panel. Expect to wait 10 to 30 minutes if you are eating at Joo Chiat Ah Huat Wanton Mee.
This is undoubtedly very good news for all fans of Ang Moh Wanton Mee! For me, it is a good Wanton Mee to satisfy the craving if I happen to be in the vicinity.
Joo Chiat Ah Huat Wanton Noodles? savoury and mildly spicy sauce will continue to attract the group of loyal fans, That said, their noodles are not something that will keep you up at night, craving for it. Its mediocre taste was not convincing enough to warrant revisits from us
However, if you consider yourself a Wanton Mee aficionado, then it behooves you to pay this heritage stall at least a visit to see what the hoo-ha is all about.

King Of Fried Rice
Affordable Din Tai Fung-Like Pork Chop Egg Fried Rice At S$6.50 In Golden Mile Tower
Believe me when I say that I?ve had my fair share of fried rice in Singapore. From homemade fried rice to the ever-popular Din Tai Fung egg pork chop fried rice, or even my standard tom yum fried rice order at my nearest zi char stall? But now, I think I finally found one stall that tops it alll.
Behold, King of Fried Rice, a humble stall hidden at Golden Mile Tower?s basement that specialises in fried rice
This was the best fried rice I?ve had, hands down. The rice was fluffy and moist, and each grain was coated well with the relevant flavours.
And there were so many flavours: the natural sweetness from the egg, piquant sourness from the tom yum, tongue-numbing peppery goodness from the mala, and the smoky and roasted taste from the X.O sauce.
While Golden Mile Tower is definitely a place I wouldn?t pass by on a regular basis, I absolutely and whole-heartedly enjoyed my meal at King of Fried Rice. In fact, I?d go so far as to say that it?s better than most zi char places and restaurants I?ve been to.

林玉梅 Lin Yu Mei Sarawak Laksa & Kolo Mee
Authentic Sarawak Kolo Mee + Sarawak Laksa At Haig Road Market And Food Centre.
The thing I appreciate the most about our Singaporean hawker scene has to be the seemingly endless food options.
A bustling hawker centre always promises a full and satisfied belly.
While a lot of attention has been given to our local favourites (and rightly so), there are a couple of under-rated dishes that deserve the spotlight as well.
One of them has to be Sarawak kolo mee and you can find a pretty tasty one at 林玉梅 Lin Yu Mei Sarawak Laksa & Kolo Mee in Haig Road Market & Food Centre.
Lin Yu Mei is helmed by to Mdm Ling Hang Hua and her sister, and boasts impressive queues come lunchtime.
Unlike your wanton noodles, kolo mee does not have that alkaline taste that wanton noodles sometime have.
Mdm Ling keeps this bowl as authentic as possible and quipped that she gets her husband to ferry kolo mee from Johor Bahru almost every day.
If you haven?t heard of kolo mee until now, I urge you to pay Lin Yu Mei Sarawak Laksa & Kolo Mee a visit.
Their scrumptious bowls of kolo mee are simple and downright satisfying that this might even become your new hawker staple.

Zhong Yu Yuan Wei Wanton Noodle (忠于原味云吞面)
Sunday, 1.00pm. I was having lunch with Derrick at Tiong Bahru Food Centre, trying out some of the nice food in the hawker centre.
After buying Koh Brother Pig Organs Soup, I was surfing the net and saw Leslie?s post on Zhong Yu Yuan Wei Wanton Noodle (忠于原味云吞面). I decided to queue for it!
This stall has a big sign pasted infront of the over which says ?bu jian tian char siew? (不见天叉烧), which means the part of the char siew which does not see the sky. I initially thought it meant the pork was cooked in the oven, hence never see any light! (LOL, I was too creative).
?Bu jian tian char siew? simply means pig?s armpit in a more polite way.
Pig?s armpit is the part between the shoulder and belly, which is the most flavourful part as it is marbled and tender.
The char siew was well marinated, has lightly charred bits and does not add much colouring to it, hence giving it the perfect texture.
Savoury brown soup was also poured over the noodles to enhance its flavour.
Food is very nice and satisfying.

Koung?s Wan Tan Mee
Traditional Wanton Mee For S$4 With Charcoal Roasted Char Siew Since 1964 At Geylang.
Koung?s Wan Tan Mee, located at Geylang, has been around since 1964, dishing out traditional wanton mee with handmade dumplings, homemade chilli sauce, and more impressively, charcoal roasted char siew.
My first impression of the noodles was how fresh the chilli was. It was the type of chilli that leaned more towards a balance between chilli padi and lime, so there was that fragrant spiciness and tanginess. Yet, as I continued to chew, the spiciness mellowed out to become a smoky sweetness.
Despite being left alone for about 10 minutes or so while we took some pictures, the egg noodles weren?t soggy at all.
It was delightfully buttery, silky and springy, perfect for slurping. It had just the right amount of bite in it and that characteristic bouncy texture.
My only gripe with the dry wanton mee would be its gravy. When coupled with the buttery egg noodles, it was on the verge of becoming oily, and might be jelak to some people especially towards the end of their meal.
Wanton mee is such a classic dish and some might even say it?s relatively simple in terms of what it?s made up of, but it?s arguably a difficult dish to master.
From the downright delicious noodles to the amount of hard work that goes into each of its components every single day, Koung?s Wan Tan Mee really impressed me. Needless to say, I?m definitely coming back for another plate of slurp-worthy wanton mee.

Pak Mandor
It has undoubtedly The Best Nasi Lemak in Yishun.
A reader recommended Pak Mandor, a 100% Muslim-owned coffeeshop stall in Yishun that sells very good nasi lemak. This is one of the nasi lemak stalls that hasn?t received wide coverage online.
Even so, Pak Mandor is very well known by those living in the area.
Coconut rice, sambal chilli, anchovies are the key ingredients in a good plate of nasi lemak.
This simple everyday meal is loved by many Singaporeans.
It started off as a farmer?s meal, but now, there are so many creative variants of this dish and ingredients such as lobster and big fried sotong are being added to create these variants.
But sometimes, we just need a simple and humble plate of nasi lemak. Pak Mandor offers exactly just that.
Just look at that plate of fluffy nasi lemak that rocks an appealing shade of green. Each mouthful carries a beautiful fragrance of coconut and pandan.

一家人 Yat Ka Yan Dessert
Homemade Desserts Made By One Family.
Yat Ka Yan Dessert is a new restaurant by the Tang family. They?re the sister restaurant to Ren Ren Desserts, who is opened by another family member.
The older family members were searching for a way to bond the family together, and one day, they found the answer.
The chef in the family, Wilson Tang, trained them all until they have the necessary skills to make the desserts. As such, they pride themselves on making everything from scratch.
Family bond is very important to them, and it shows in the way they handle their restaurant.
The signboard 一家人, which means one family, is quite popular with customers, especially families, who will take group pictures in front of it.
You should come here to try their fantastic desserts, and at the same time, catch a glimpse of the tight knit family that started this whole restaurant.

Teo Kee Minced Pork Noodles
Hearty Noodles at Tampines Round Market & Food Centre
I placed my barang-barang in front of the stall which had a relentless queue. Teo Kee Minced Pork Noodles is no stranger to media coverage. They have been on local television several times and have even been covered by Korean media companies.
It was no wonder that owner, Jimmy Lim, was not at all camera-shy.
Teo Kee Minced Pork Noodles offers quite a variety of ingredients to go with their noodles.
It was apparent from the number of slow cookers that they had at the counter. I learnt from Jimmy that each slow cooker held a different ingredient (pork ribs, chicken leg, chicken wing and egg) and each of the stews was prepared using a different recipe.
I would have thought that they will use one braise (卤) for everything, but I would be wrong.
The various stews did taste different, but I couldn?t quite place my finger on the ingredients that caused the differences. The stews shared a common denominator though ? the earthy flavour.

YouFu Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodles 友福福建面
? 21-Year-Old Young Chap Opens Hawker Stall Selling Hokkien Mee.
For a 21-year-old to serve such a plate of Hokkien Mee, I am impressed. I feel this is better than some that has been around for decades.
In my opinion, one of the most difficult hawker dishes to cook is Hokkien Mee.
You need an intensely rich prawn broth and the noodles need to possess that smoky charred flavour (aka wok hei). You can?t just pick up the skill in a day.
YouFu serves the dry version of Hokkien Mee. One thing worth noting is that you can choose to fry the noodles with thick or thin vermicelli.
I would say go for the thin bee hoon and let it soak up the savoury prawn broth.
Andre takes his time to fry the noodles and let the noodles capture the breath of the wok.
You are guaranteed to get a rich and intense smoky flavour in every mouthful.
For $5, the portion is substantial with squid and prawns buried underneath the noodles.
If you can, order the takeaway packet at $6 where the noodles are wrapped in opeh leaf which elevates the dish.
There is nothing much to shout about Youfu?s sambal chilli for now. I hope Andre continues to work on the broth and chilli sauce, and I believe he will be better in no time!
For those that are taking away their order, the hokkien mee will be wrapped in opeh leaf which enhances the flavour.
Overall, this is a decent plate of hokkien mee that is way better than many places. I personally feel that the stall should improve on the chilli sauce to make it more enjoyable.

Ah Fu Prawn Noodle
Try This Popular S$3 Prawn Noodles That Sells Out Before 12pm At Bedok North
Bedok, the old and lively estate in the East, is also a neighbourhood with various hawker centres filled with famous and delicious food. We ventured into Bedok North Blk 216 Market to find out what exactly caused the Bedok residents buzzing.
The queue at Ah Fu Prawn Noodle definitely stood out as it snaked across the hawker centre as early as 9am on a Saturday morning.
We first visited Ah Fu Prawn Noodle at 12pm on Friday, but it was already closed.
After asking around, we found out that Ah Fu Prawn Noodle usually sells out before 12pm, so we went down super early the next day. Service was very swift despite the long queues, and it was our turn within 10 minutes although there were nine people in front of us.
Although Ah Fu Prawn Noodle sees long queues every day, the prawn noodles here were not the best we have tasted in Singapore.
However, at merely $3 for the smallest bowl, we can see why many residents return for Ah Fu?s prawn noodles.

Tian Tian Curry Rice
Famous Redhill Hawker Stall That Has Been Around Since 1973
From father to son, generation after generation, Tian Tian Hainanese Curry Rice has been the Booi?s family heirloom for the last 40 years.
The stall currently has three members of the family running it: Moh Yeow, his younger brother Jamie, and his mother, Yoke Eng.
Their father, Mr Booi, retired from the business several months ago. The stall began as a venture by Moh Yeow?s great grandfather in 1973.
The family has been cooking at the same store since then, keeping their recipes a closely-guarded secret and passing them down from parent to child.
Moh Yeow and Jamie were previous holding corporate jobs, and didn?t have plans to take over the family business. But several months ago, they got a call from their parents.
They were prepared to put down the ladle for good due to Mr. Booi?s health. The store would have to be closed down, and the family legacy was close to its end.
Tian Tian is a short bus ride from Redhill MRT Station. It?s a little tucked away, so it might be difficult to locate at first. When the lunch rush started, the queue came and went in the blink of an eye. Service was fast enough that they cleared orders just as quickly as hungry customers arrived.
A second Tian Tian outlet sits at Telok Blangah. That outlet occupies an entire store, rather than a single stall in a hawker centre. While they have workers to help, all their secret recipes are solely managed by the family.
Tian Tian?s cai fan has the soothing familiarity of home-cooked food, and their passion and heritage are clear for all to see.
The friendly family serves up plates of rice drenched in curry with a smile. There have a larger variety of sauces than I?m used to, and it was interesting to observe what combos other patrons ordered.

MooTeow chilli beef kway teow
The store was first opened in 1921 by Tan Chin Sia who handed over the reins to his fourth son, Anthony Tan.
The business was eventually passed to Anthony?s daughter, Tina Tan, who unfortunately had to close the business in July 2019 due to manpower issues. However, the legacy of Tan Chin Sia is not lost. At least for now.
Tan Chin Sai?s daughter, the late Madam Tan Sok Eng, decided to branch out from the family?s illustrious beef noodle business and opened up her own store, Empress Place Beef Kway Teow.
The store gained quite a popular following and was eventually handed over to David Lim, Madam Tan?s son.
After learning the ropes from David for two months, Ruben opened up MooTeow Chilli Beef Kway Teow.
This store serves up the same Teochew-style beef noodles that many have loved, while placing a strong emphasis on the chilli used. We were recently invited to check out this exciting noodle place at Wild Market.
Located at the hipsterish Wild Market, this modern kopitiam has dim lighting and comfortable air-conditioning?making dining here a relaxing experience.
Service is fast, but expect to run into a small queue if you?re hitting this joint during the peak lunch-time crowd.
There are also loads of arcade machines and toy catchers that you can splash your spare change on after a nourishing bowl of beef noodles.
Having tried both Empress Place Beef Kway Teow and MooTeow Chilli Beef Kway Teow, it?s safe to say that both stores deliver a mean bowl of beef noodles that ought to impress anyone.
Aside from the chilli, it?s hard to find anything drastically different from both stores. While the prices at MooTeow are considerably higher, the comfortable dining area and convenient location will attract those in the city.
If you?re still hankering for beef noodles, be sure to check out our guide on beef noodle soup stalls that even includes a hawker stall selling wagyu beef soup!

Xing Ji Wanton Noodle
Located at Tampines Round Market and Food Centre, this stall is famous for their wanton noodle and dumpling soup.
During my visit to Tampines Round Market & Food Centre to check out Xing Yun Kway Chap, I noticed there is a constant long queue at Xing Ji Wanton Noodle.
Being a foodie, I could not resist my curiosity to join the queue to find out for myself why the wanton mee stall attracts the snaking queue.
Always super long q on weekends... alway great to go back to this Xing Ji's stall at Tampines Round Market. The boss' son remembers my order (we have been patronising it since 10 years ago!)and the rest of the customers at his fingertips.
Tampines Round Market & Food Centre - Go For the Chicken Feet Noodle Instead.
A traditional wanton mee stall, Xing Ji?s Wanton Mee includes two wantons, a few stalks of vegetables, and slices of char siew.
The egg noodles are springy and a mixture of ketchup and chilli are tossed with the noodles.
When eaten hot, the gravy accentuates the fragrance of the noodles and it feels somewhat similar to Kok Kee Wanton Mee.
The skin of the wantons were thin enough for the fillings to spill into my mouth on the very first bite, which was satisfying.
